Empress Gibbs, UK
Hi Im Empress Gibbs Founder and Director of Skate Buddies UK CIC and I am so excited to be a part of the RollerFitness family.
I started skating during lockdown because I was struggling with a severe mental health illness for more than 15 years. However, learning how to skate and coming into the skate community changed my life for the better and enabled me to take my first step in recovery. Roller skating became a tool in my bag that I could use to begin, repair and maintain my mental health, fitness and wellbeing. Tools are very important when you're walking your recovery journey and I have passion and a purpose helping and supporting the community by providing open, friendly, warm and welcoming spaces so that others can also find the space, compassion and care required to explore these tools.
With this amazing qualification I plan to get the skate and wider community skate fit. I would like to incorporate RollerFitness into my adult skate classes to complement the fundamentals and skills they learn, as well as facilitating weekly classes for children, young people and adults locally, regionally and nationally and you never know if the universe sees fit, maybe even internationally.

I’m a 47yr old Yoga Trapeze Instructor, my full time job IT Specialist.
I think I was 10 years old the first time I put on a pair of rollerboots. My grandparents brought me back a proper set of quad skates from their holidays in the USA. I skated around Dundee my home town.
I joined Dundee Roller Derby back in 2012. I stayed for a short while and due to life commitments (my Grandson was born) I stayed away until 2015/16. The truth is I just wanted to skate. I never liked going to the gym and I wanted something for me, Angee. Not just Mum or Granny, but some ‘me’ time. To be honest when I came across Derby, I never really thought too much about what it was, just that I really wanted to skate. The day I put those skates on I never looked back.
Skating doesn’t feel like exercise once you get into the way of it your muscles don’t ache for days. It can be as hard as you want it to be (as in learning the sport of derby) or as easy and relaxed as you want it to be (social skating, discos etc.)
Skating will always be part of my life. Believe it or not (and not many people know this) I have requested to be buried in my skates! Skating sets my soul on fire!
I love skating outside and feeling the wind in my hair. I come alive when I skate. It’s just me and my roller skates. I’m thrilled and proud to become a Rollerfitness Instructor, it’s a great way to make you sweat, burn calories, lose weight, tone muscles and meet amazing people.

Hello, I'm Paul, and very proud to have joined the roller fitness programme as the first male roller Fitness Instructor in Scotland.
As co-founder of adult and child m8snsk8s here in Dundee, I am extremely passionate about sharing the great physical and mental health benefits skating can offer anyone and at any age - I'm in my 'early' 50s so living proof you can skate at any age.
Unlike many members of RollerFitness, I don't have a fitness background, but this course has allowed me to combine my love of speed, music and rhythm into an activity such as roller skating and provide endless laughter etc.
The programme has also been instrumental in developing networks with the wider skating community at local, national and international levels.
There's just so much to learn in the world of Roller skating.
The skating community is a real education and we never stop learning new things.
We are the teachers as well as the students.
Keep on rolling… Paul Downton 🤟

Hey! Everyone just calls me Tre (pronounced Tree) and I skate by the name “The Tre of Skate Life.” I chose that name because my skating journey has very much felt like a family tree. So many people, strangers, from all over the world skate, and yet somehow, we are all connected to one another.
I started skating seriously in 2022, and now I am excited to be a part of the RollerFitness instructor family! I recently got my DanceSkate Certification as well, and I created a class called Roll & Bop. It is a fusion of RollerFitness and DanceSkate designed to give groups a rhythmic moderate workout and teach some beginner to intermediate DanceSkate moves.
Skating is full of “ah-ha!” moments, tips & tricks, literal highs & lows, close-calls & falls, but it’s so much fun! Learning and leveling up never ends. I am going to quote one of my fellow RollerFitness Instructors who said it best; “We are the teachers as well as the students.” ~ Paul Downton

Kia ora from New Zealand… Chaos here from Chaos Cardio a.k.a Yossarian. After making the most of the 80's hype of roller discos and street racing with my friends I almost forgot about skating until reaching 50 years old when the bug bit again. Now I’m loving being back on skates and rebuilding my skill set through skating where ever I can; be it Roller Derby, JAM skating, park skating or my latest favourite RollerFitness instructing as Chaos Cardio. While the name of the classes may indicate a bit of mayhem, Chaos is actually my roller derby name, so no need to worry there!
While the 40-year break was a long one, the brain hadn't forgotten the feeling and enjoyment of gliding along. Now, after a few years back on wheels I’ve gained confidence, new friends, an amazing community of like-minded people and new skills along with a couple of bumps and bruises. I wouldn't trade any of it for the world though and now I’m keen to help you experience the strength, confidence, health and fun that can come from being on roller skates. I’m currently running classes each Thursday night where we get our hearts pumping with some great music, brilliant exercises (thanks RollerFitness) and lots of skating which leaves us all feeling energized. Come check it out: FB = Chaos Cardio IG = chaos.cardio

Hi, my name is Love and I live in Sofia, Bulgaria. I love fitness and I have been training for 20 years. I love to be in shape and it helps my mental condition, too, that is why I have tried all different kinds of sports. The roller skates I have loved since I was a child, but it was not so popular at home. That is why I was extremely happy when I started practising last year and loved them right away. Now I am 40 and I have 3 kids, one of them is a baby and it is hard to have some me time, but with the roller skate fitness, I work out while the baby is sleeping and do it together with my daughters. They are really excited, too. Who says we can't skate at this age, too? I wish to pass on this joy and knowledge and to have a roller skate hall in our city.

Lorena Martell, Malaga
My name is Lorena. Since I can remember I have always been skating everywhere.I was champion of Andalusia in figure skating and I was preparing for the Spanish championships... but the pressure got the better of me and I stopped skating. Competing is very hard and I wasn't prepared for that... Now that I've resumed it, I want to offer skating for everyone, skating that offers you good times, fun, boosts your self-esteem and much more. I want each person to find in my classes a moment to dedicate themselves and that they can improve little by little.
I love playing sports and I love skating, so for me it's a perfect combination.
Thank you so much.

Everything’s better on skates! I played Roller Derby for over 10 years and when I retired I really missed the skating and the sweating!
I’ve always enjoyed sport and in between running marathons, lifting weights, swimming in cold water and riding my BMX I’m loving training to become a Roller Fitness instructor. I’m already a L2 qualified Gym Instructor and a mindset coach and super excited to get back on my skates and support others to get ‘wheely’ fit!
My online sessions will launch later this year and are designed to be done at home. The perfect way to get confident and comfortable on wheels again before hitting the skate parks, promenades and derby tracks!

In 2010 and at the age of 42 I decided I wanted to improve my fitness. I chose to buy a pair of roller skates, but the only outlet to learn how to skate was through my local Roller Derby league. There started a journey that changed my life. I never wanted to play derby, but I fell in love with the sport and the community. I became a referee and at times coached their sessions and worked on different ideas to help with skate skills and rules knowledge. I also coached new skaters at the start of their skate journey, something which was a joy to do. Seeing skaters grow in confidence and skills is so rewarding. In 2018 I decided to take things on a step and left my job to go to college and then on to university to study for a degree in Sports Coaching & Development. I took Roller Derby with me and studied and wrote extensively about the subject.
Out with Roller Derby I coach local college students with learn to skate classes for their mental wellbeing. I have been lucky to meet some fantastic people through this opportunity and I know their lives have been changed and skating is now very much part of who they are.
I found RollerFitness by chance online when I decided not only did I need a degree, but I also needed a certification in skating. Over the years I have seen the benefits that skating gives both physically and mentally. I am delighted to have become one of the RollerFitness family and look forward to bringing fitness on skates to my local community.
I like to think that I am proof that age is not a barrier, and that skating is open to everybody. I hope my enthusiasm, patience and passion for skating really shows through in what I want to offer the skate community.

My name is Marcela, the skates are my second feet!
From the age of 8 skating, competing, doing a show, I only took them off for 5 years when I went to study my other profession. Now with 41 years I have a little school that grows every day, with people from 5 to 65 years old wanting to enjoy a sport and share a moment. We do artistic technique, dancing and RollerFitness. I am very happy with the team of students that I have and thanks to them I continue learning and teaching.

I'm Italian, from Rome, and since I was 8 my dream has been to become an Artistic Roller Skating Coach. As Walt Disney says, if you can dream it, you can do it: at the age of 15 I started my long walk to become it, while I was practicing different disciplines as an athlete.
At 19 I got my first job as Skating Coach in a school, and now it's 10 years that I'm the main coach and coordinator there.
I've always worked to offer something special in my skating classes, especially to children and teenagers in an city area at high social risk: due to Covid19.
I was looking for something to enrich my lessons and to approach also the most distrustful to roller skating.
I wondered how to unify Artistic Roller Skating, easy physical exercises to practice at home during the lock down, and also the required social distancing to practice it safely in the classes when possible... And #RollerFitness was the perfect, unexpected answer! It is an honor for me to became a RollerFitness ambassador in Italy.
Curiosity about me? I'm also a biomedical engineer and I work as IT Consultant.

My name is Maria Amalia, I'm 22 years old, I'm from Mexico and I have practised artistic roller skating for 10 years. Since I was 7 years old I used to skate in quads; I suffered an injury in my knee and I had to quit when I was 16 years old and get surgery at 17 years old.
Meanwhile, after years of recovery, I decided to continue skating just as a hobby but I wanted to share my passion and knowledge with all the people who want to learn more about skating or make roller skating a new way of practising exercise in their lifestyle.
That's why I chose to become a RollerFitness certified instructor and spread this passion in my country, I have faith that it could be a new way to keep active.
Luckily I found this community and I'm glad to be part of it and to bring this to my lovely Mexico!

Veronica was born and raised in Oakland, California in the Bay Area, United States. Veronica has always had a passion for roller skating from an early age. She recalls walking from Oakland, California to San Leandro’s roller skating rink with her childhood friends. She recalls her Godfather, Rodney Walker, taking her rollerskating in Foothill Square in which he helped build. She started training with the Legendary, Richard Humphrey, Founder of The Rollerdance Academy. Veronica came from a Tap, Jazz and Ballet background and loves Rollerdancing.
RollerFitness is a great foundation and will help with balance, core/leg strength and endurance. RollerFitness will make you sweat, burn calories, lose weight and tone muscles.

My name is Rebecca, I'm turning 43 this year and if nothing else, I hope I can inspire you to live your life featuring the true, authentic version of yourself.
I drive an old boogie van with a wizard airbrushed on the side, I have a parrot that swears, and I'm a self-proclaimed, "World's Okayest Roller Skater".
I've drawn blood out of thousands of arms as a nurse, given dozens of fake spray tans as an esthetician, and lead multiple yoga-hike excursions into the wilderness as a yoga instructor.
I live in the United States, but I've eaten fresh bananas in Rio de Janeiro, seen alpacas in Machu Picchu,
snowmobiled in Canada, planted an avocado tree in Costa Rica, and explored castles in Scotland.
I want to prove there's nothing you can't do. You're never too old to reinvent yourself and try something different. We'll make the best of each roller fitness class using warm-ups, modifications, and old-fashioned practice. What we don't know, we'll figure out together. We'll celebrate our progress, we'll set goals, and we'll lift each other up. Can't wait to see you on your wheels!

I'm Nicole, a 41-year-old skate fitness fanatic and RollerFitness Instructor. I am a former public high school Spanish teacher and Vice Principal of 15 years. I decided to leave public education to start my journey as a skate business owner in 2014. I am originally from Columbus, Ohio, but I currently live with my family in Yucca Valley, CA.
Roller skating has been a staple in my life since I could walk, and skate fitness forever changed my life. In 2014 I had a health scare that forced major life and lifestyle changes. I laced up my skates, joined my local roller derby team, and started working out on my roller skates. The rest is history.
In 2016, I founded 4WheelFitness based on that love for working out on my roller skates. I post weekly workout moves on roller skates, and host street/trail skates, and roller skating socials around the hi desert. Now 4WheelFitness has grown into a Roller Community with the goal of connecting skaters all over the world. I want to collaborate with the worldwide skate community to create, curate, and share the wealth of skating communities, events, locations, styles, and knowledge with the rest of the world.
Roller skating community building is also a passion of mine. In 2016 I also founded SkateQuadSD, a private FB group & website with the goal of uniting all roller skating clubs and activities in and around San Diego, CA. Today our group is over 2,800 members strong and growing. We host skate socials, teach people to skate, introduce skaters to street/trail skating, and so much more!
I am so excited to be a part of the RollerFitness team and continue my skate fitness journey. I can’t wait to share my skate lifestyle with the world!

As a child, my dream in life was to become a roller derby skater. Roller Derby wasn't around much in my teen years but I didn't give up on the idea.
At the age of 22 I found out a league formed in my area and I joined. I spent 7 years playing before retiring. There will always be aspects of roller derby that I miss but I'd like to bring some of those aspects back to the roller skating community through Roller Skate Fitness.
I am committed to promoting healthy lifestyles, which includes fun ways to exercise. I plan to teach classes virtually, as well as in person at outdoor locations and roller rinks.

Excited to bring something funky to you!!!
Exercise improves mental health so much which is one of the main reasons why I do it and want to help as many people as possible, so I’m super excited to add something to my timetable in the future that is going to get you giggling, moving and working hard reducing those stress levels and just simply having a darn good time....and once we can I will obviously be taking it outdoors!!
Let’s move for mental health.
