8 REASONS TO ROLLER SKATE IN 2023
At RollerFitness we believe roller skating can help with so much when it comes to your health and fitness. Below you will find our 8 reasons to how roller skating will improve your mind, body and soul in 2022.
1. Fundamentals
Roller Skating will link FUNDAMENTAL movement skills and core skating skills, it is a combination of the fundamental movement skills that make the core skating skills possible, and as you develop both in our classes you will notice improvement with other sporting activities.
2. Flexibility
FLEXIBILITY & RANGE OF MOTION is a proven science behind our fitness program because every muscle and every joint is being targeted by extending the number of angles you engage the muscle and joints from. The deep stretches that are carefully taught in our sessions will lengthen your muscles to induce a more stretchy, supple you.
3. Co-Ordination
Learning to roller skate will improve CO-ORDINATION because the skill to skate requires movement that involves two or more body parts working together, controlled and perfectly timed. Fundamental motor skills within our skating fitness program are prerequisites to then progress to learn sport specific skater skills that require excellent co- ordination and control.
4. Strength
Building STRENGTH is a definite at any RollerFitness class as we have carefully devised strength and muscular endurance exercises that will use your own body weight and your roller skates to supply the resistance. Our exercises isolate and target specific muscles mainly core and large muscles of the lower body. The abductors of the outer thigh, the adductors of your inner thigh, the quadriceps, hamstrings, gluteus maximus and calf muscles are all target areas to help develop those perfectly toned skaters legs. It's also surprising how heavy the roller skate becomes when you're using it as resistance at the end of an extended leaver.
5. Balance
Your BALANCE and stability will have noticeable improvements because roller skating activates the entire muscular system. When you are roller skating you are using every muscle in your body, and core engagement will focus on keeping your centre of gravity. A little wobble and losing your balance will engage your core and in turn will pull you back to the correct skating formation. The more advanced skills you start to perform the harder your muscles will be working to keep your body controlled with perfect posture.
6. Cardiovascular
Our roller skating program is a great CARDIOVASCULAR exercise that will keep your heart healthy, because our skating sessions are based around rhythmic aerobic muscle contractions that demand oxygen. The ongoing demand for oxygen increases the speed and depth of respiration and makes your heart pump faster and harder to deliver oxygen-rich blood to the muscles being exercised. The greater the size and number of muscles involved at any one time during an exercise, the greater the demand will have on your body and cardiovascular system.
7. Low Impact Exercise
Roller skating is a LOW IMPACT EXERCISE providing about 50% less impact to the joints when compared to running. When you roller skate, there is a fluid motion minimising the amount of force being applied to the body, therefore less jarring to joints, bones and connective tissue.
8. Happy
Roller skating clears the mind, minimises mild forms of depression, and it just makes you HAPPY by reducing bad hormones and while it does this, it increases the good endorphins, which are commonly known as the ‘happy hormones’. The endorphins from skating relieve ‘brain pain’, and thanks to the extended aerobic workout from our skating program you’ll feel naturally good.
